In an article entitled “The Test Passes, Colleges Fail” Peter Salins explores the following question: Do SATs predict (college) graduation rates more accurately than high school grade-point averages? An interesting question without doubt, given the fact that the actual value of the SAT is frequently challenged.
For us, the article also pays careful attention to methods used in answering the question – note the references to “controlled experiments”, “correlation”, “predictors”.
A lovely optical illusion is also included (click on image to enlarge and see if you can decipher the secret message destined only for the select few):

it says success
Are you trying to show that you are one of the select few… or giving it away so that no one else gets a chance to see if they are destined for the extraordinary?
Bonus question: Can you figure out how it works?
And super bonus question: Can you figure out the title of the post? *mischievous grin*
well, i can guess how it works. It is extremely similar to another optical illusion seen in class. There is a black background gridded with a gray line, and white dots are placed on specific locations. When you look at them you see black dots because your brain can’t process tha transffer from black to white so quickly. Was that the kind of answer you were looking for?? And i posted an answer cuz i thought thats what people do…answer the questions they are asked.
yup, it says success, at least it is what my brain percieves
bobby we are special, awesome, cool, awesome…and apparently i am redundant ass well also (hahahah)
No! I was just teasing you Mario!
It’s a combination of two of the optical illusions we saw. It’s neat, I think.
P.S. Bob – I like your monster avatar. Way better than mine (which just looks like a lunatic potato on legs).
success?
ughh i can see everyone already said it…
this is coooool… sometimes i wonder how many optical illusions are hidden in propaganda and stuff, like ads and things… i mean like so many subliminal messages or things that get imprintend in the back of our minds without us realizing it… scary jujuuuuu…. i hope i make sense?
