From Slate: The Cultural Weight of an Unveiled Face
…as well as an article on Columbine, just because it’s worth reflecting about.

Related film recommendations (just because I know some you enjoy films):
- The documentary Bowling for Columbine (directed by Michael Moore) – though I imagine you are familiar with it.
- The film Elephant (directed by Gus van Sant, who also made Milk) – a fictional work, but (loosely) based on the Columbine shooting. Similar to The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, this film is interesting on the level of cinematic technique as van Sant experiments with camera perspectives and plot structure. It feels very ‘hazy’ at times, but this certainly contributes to the tension (and eventually paranoia) the director is trying to infuse into the plot. Do note that Elephant is rated “R” and not (I repeat: NOT) for the faint-hearted. (Actually, I’m quite faint-hearted myself…) This film won the Palme d’Or in 2003, the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
